Dinny Nolan Tjampitjinpa

Born in the early 1920s near the present site of Yuendumu, Dinny Nolan worked as a stockman on several cattle stations in the Northern Territory. In the 1970s he settled in Papunya, where he became a senior Lawman and a recognised leader for Rainmaking and Water Dreaming ceremonies. When, under the guidance of Geoffery Bardon, a group of artists began producing paintings in Papunya, Dinny Nolan joined them. His older brother, Kaapa Tjampitjinpa, and his two cousins, Billy Stockman Tjapaltjarri and Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, were also members of this group.

Dinny Nolan's art is characterised by his predominant use of natural ochre colours, and the designs he utilises are the same he paints on the bodies of men taking part in ceremonies. Dinny has exhibited in many galleries, museums and collections throughout the world.

The Tali tjukurrpa (dreaming) represents the sandhills around Papunya. It is painted in acrylic on linen and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a disc containing 45 photos of Dinny Nolan working on the painting. The painting measures 123 cms x 116 cms. The sale price is $1,200.
