Kitty Kantilla (Tiwi, c1928–2003) Kitty Kantilla was one of Australia’s most remarkable Indigenous artists, celebrated for her innovation, unique style and mastery of a range of mediums. When introduced to printmaking, Kantilla relinquished dots and colour for fragile lines and bands of delicate herringbone. Kitty Kantilla was included in the Australian Art Collector’s list of the 50 Most Collectable Artists in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2009. For sale is an untitled etching, edition 55/99, measuring 49.5 cms x 33 cms, with the artist’s mark inscribed. The sale price is $1,200. |
