Walangkura Napanangka

Walangkura Napanangka was born in the 1940's near where the Tjukurla Community was later established. She later moved to Papunya to live with her late husband Uta Uta Tjungala, one of the original shareholders of Papunya Tula Artists. She first painted for the Papunya Tula Artists Company in 1997 but not regularly until 2002.

Although she has been showing regularly only since then, Walangkura is, in the opinion of Reg Richardson: "an artist of stellar quality, destined for the big time. She may already be there."

In 2005 she won the Redlands Westpac Art Prize. Her work is held in the National Gallery of Victoria and Artbank collections. In January 2007, Walangkura Napanangka was included in the Australian Art Collector's list of the 50 most collectable artists for the first time.

For sale is a 91 x 61 cms acrylic on canvas depicting designs associated with a lake site near the Tjukurla Community. Painted in 2004, it is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Papunya Tula Artists. The sale price is $2,000.
