Walangkura Napanangka (2)

Walangkura was born in the Tjiturulnga region of Western Australia in about 1940. She now resides in Kintore at Kiwirrikurra with her husband and fellow artist Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula. Walangkura mainly depicts the story of a "devil devil" woman (Katungka) who kills and eats people whilst on her journey from the Gibson Desert country to country south-west of Mt Liebig.

This version of Katungka is painted in acrylic on linen, measures 90 x 46 cms, and is priced at $3,000.

Note: This Walangkura Napanangka should not be confused with the artist of the same name who was included in the 50 most collectable Australian artists in January 2007. However, her standing in the Aboriginal arts community is at least equal.
