Lawrence Daws

Lawrence Daws was born in Adelaide in 1927. A widely travelled artist, he became known in exhibition with Pugh, Laycock and Howley at the Victoria Arts Society Gallery in 1954.

His painting has been concerned with spatial relationships and the placing of expressive accents. His work was included in the Tate Gallery exhibition of Australian art, 1961-62, and in 1962 he represented Australia with Blackman and Whiteley at the second Biennale des Jeunes, Paris.

Daws has won numerous awards, has exhibited at galleries throughout Australia, and is represented in the NGA, most State galleries, Parliament House, university collections and major galleries in UK.
