Louis Kahan

Louis Kahan (1905-2002) Louis Kahan was born in Vienna in 1905, and after working as an artist in Paris, arrived in Australia in 1947. Until 1950 he lived in Perth. He then moved to Melbourne and continued to exhibit in all the capital cities of Australia. He spent four years living and working in Paris and London where he studied Stained Glass painting, before returning to Melbourne. As well as being a well known painter, Louis Kahan has designed several productions for the Australian Opera, and stained glass windows for churches and synagogues.

He has received many awards, and is represented in important collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Albertina Museum, Vienna, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Government House, Canberra, and many regional galleries.

For sale here is a watercolour, Portrait of a Young Girl, painted in 1976. It measures 52 cms x 35 cms and is signed lower right. The sale price is $1,000.
