George Baldessin
Born 1939 George Baldessin studied printing at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from 1958 to 1961 and later studied at the Chelsea Art School, London and the Academy of Fine Arts, Milan. Baldessin returned to Melbourne in mid-1963 and in 1964 held his first one-man exhibition. He exhibited prints extensively and represented Australia at the Sao Paulo biennial in 1975. As a student he produced a few woodcuts and lithographs but his major work has been in etching and associated techniques in which he constantly experimented. Baldessin died in Melbourne on 9 August 1978 in a car accident.
For sale is Baldessin’s classic lithograph entitled The Bather. It was printed by Druckma Press before the artist’s death (ed 79/300). It is beautifully framed, the image itself measuring 60 x 56 cms. It is on offer for $800.
