Arthur Boyd
Arthur Boyd was born in Murrumbeena, Victoria. He attended night classes at the National Gallery Art School, Melbourne in 1935, and painting with his grandfather, Arthur Merric Boyd, 1936-9. In 1979 he was awarded the Order of Australia for services to art, and in 1992 became a Companion of the Order of Australia. Boyd was named Australian of the Year in 1995, and an ‘Australian Legend’ by Australia Post in 1999, the year he died. Arthur Boyd had more than 120 solo exhibitions in Australia and overseas.
