Lena Pwerle

Lena Pwerle was born about 1925 in Utopia and is a community elder and senior artist of the Anmatyerre people. She was one of the initial group of Utopia women, including Ada Bird Petyarre, Gloria Petyarre and Kathleen Petyarre, who were introduced to batik in 1977. In recent times acrylic painting has been favoured by most artists in preference to batik.

For sale here is Yam Dreaming, painted with acrylic on Belgian linen in 2002, and measuring 123 x 81 cms. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a photo of Lena Pwerle executing the painting. The sale price is $2,000.
